Skin that is covered in spots, pimples and pustules is a nightmare - without a doubt one the most stressful conditions for a teenager to bear !

Even worse if it continues into adulthood. Living with clogged pores and follicles is distressing and the pharmaceutical companies are cashing in on the desperation it causes, these harsh and expensive chemical options are not the answer, the solution is tea tree essential oil, kind, gentle, effective, scientifically proven, natural, inexpensive and readily available and has does not have the nasty side-effects that benzoyl peroxide has ...........tea tree essential oil with olive oil is the way to go, for clearer, healthy skin.

Research Studies proving the efficacy of tea tree oil in reducing the effects of acne have been documented, if you would like to read further about these research studies please follow these links.

Acne, very basically is where the pore and follicle in the skin becomes blocked by dead skin cells, the natural process of skin shedding and renewal is interrupted by a plug of sebum in the follicle and pore, inhibiting the release of dead skin and thus resulting in a multitude of blackheads, whiteheads, cysts, pustules, papules......all commonly known as comedones, zits or pimples !

It takes 2 - 3 weeks for this clogging to manifest itself........normally on a Saturday night just as the affected teenager is about to go out.............. and duly results in sobs at the treachery of her unruly skin !

The causes of these outbreaks are generally attributed to hormones, ones that are on a rollercoaster ride - this includes adolescence, menstruation, pregnancy and sometimes even the menopause.

Other factors maybe certain medications notably Steroids, Lithium, Phenytoin, Phenobarbitol or Oral Contraceptives.

Excessive sweating and poor hygiene also contribute....absolutely the worst scenario is the introduction of bacteria to the skin by fingers determined to annihilate the offending spot !

Obviously, diet will play an added factor, it is sensible to acknowledge that what is consumed will have a visible effect on your over-all well-being.........if you live on junk food, candy and fizzy drinks.......do not expect to have radiant, glowing and healthy skin, so it is wise to moderate or eliminate (how badly do you want great skin ?) sugar, in drinks, on food, in food, say goodbye to the cakes and biscuits !

Fried foods and refined carbohydrates are culprits too, sloughing up your system, prepared meals, white flour products, anything with processed trans-fats! Ice-cream, butter and cream need to be consumed moderately....... everyone needs ice-cream once in a while :)

Smoking is not a good idea at the best of times.........especially if you want great skin !

  • Eat well, follow a Mediterranean diet foods plan, fresh healthy food, using olive oil to cook and adorn your food. Five daily servings of assorted and very colorful, salads, fruit, vegetables and legumes. Seeds, fibre rich foods, beans and lentils, feta cheese and Greek yoghurt with honey.
  • Water, lots of water, at least 6 to 8 glasses.
  • Fruit and vegetable juices, try carrot and orange juice.
  • Restrict caffeine and alcohol.
  • Try to stick to fish, chicken and eggs, rather than pork, beef and lamb.

  • Wash face with warm water or/with an olive oil soap, to retain the skins correct pH balance. Click here for the olive oil soap recipe.
  •  Cleansing the skin with a chamomile infusion may bring relief if the skin is sore.........just use chamomile teabags if chamomile heads are not available, steep in hot water and when the water is warm to cool, cleanse the face with the chamomile infusion.

Acne Sensitive Skin Treatment - Using olive oil on skin.

Do not be put off by the term oil, most cosmetic removal creams contain oil and other products that are really not very kind to your skin at all, tea tree oil is natural, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial for your skin, olive oil is a very effective make up remover and moisturizer on its own and an anti-inflammatory combined with tea essential oil it is doubly effective for reducing the effects of acne.

  • Add your tea tree essential oils for acne into some pure olive oil.......add 4 of drops of tea tree essential oil to 10 mls olive oil.
  • Moisturize your skin with the tea tree essential oil and olive oil blend, really massage it in, due to the slight acidity of the oil you may see cloggy bits of sebum being released from your skin, gently wipe these away....it's not an excuse for the biggest squeezing session of all time !
  • Your skin maybe a little dry initially and the tea tree essential oil treatment will not work as quickly as some over the counter preparations, but keep the faith, tea tree oil does work extremely well to alleviate the effects of acne just let it work its magic..... :)
